Make Your Own Floor Cloth

At Flying Canvas Studio you can learn how to make your own floor cloth! These workshops are designed for anyone with any ability or none at all! No experience necessary. Create your own floor cloth and learn some basic techniques.

The workshops are all day and include a yummy lunch. Sample menu: handmade pasta and local veggies, followed by pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.

In-studio floor cloth workshops are scheduled a few times in the Spring and Fall. Or schedule your own group of 3-5 of your friends and family! It makes a great get-a-away weekend or a fun gift. In addition, Find a Workshop for future opportunities at an art center near you.

Floor Cloths & Interior Design

Floor cloths first appeared in the early 1800s in Britain. They became quite popular and were both hand painted and manufactured until the introduction of linoleum later in the same century. Made of sailcloth, they were durable and cost effective compared to the oriental rugs popular at the time.

Contemporary floor cloths remain a great substitute for area rugs to protect wood or tired floors and as beautiful floor coverings for your home. And you can learn to make your own with Jeanette!
