Artivism

the act of using art as a means to protest your discontent

“The likelihood that your acts of resistance cannot stop the injustice does not exempt you from acting in what you sincerely and reflectively hold to be the best interests of your community.”
— Susan Sontag

Protest and Activism

“For me, my objections to patriarchy officially began with the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Clarence Thomas but I am of an age when little girls could not wear pants to school. Growing up near Buffalo NY, this was untenable and unjust. And I knew it.” - Staley says of her social practice.

Local Action

When Black Lives Matter signs went missing throughout her community, Jeanette began painting BLM signs and giving them away. Additionally, she offered a weekly open studio for others to paint their own signs.

She had the pleasure of painting a sign for David Zuckerman events, the Progressive candidate in the Vermont race for governor.

The Omnivenist Society

The Omnivenist Society is an artist collective campaigning for a post patriarchal society.

What does this mean? OVS uses art to advance the ideals of true cultural equality: healthcare, safe affordable housing, just legislation and law enforcement, safe and clean water, air and arable land. Bumpers stickers, lawn signs, flyers and more are used promote these ideals and can be found in places from museum restrooms to random highways, from Vermont to the Tennessee and the southwest.

You can find more information on our Facebook page. We have yard signs, bumper stickers and magnets available to support the effort. Contact Jeanette or purchase a magnet
